Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters
Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.

You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.

Learn to Work Together
The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.

Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.

Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.

And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.

Ok, let me get this out of the way, I have played both the 360 and PS3 version through the first couple of chapters. I don't see a difference, both versions look fantastic!! This is an absolutely beautiful game on either system, I purchased the PS 3 version because I am still, and always be a fan of the Dualshock controller, I guess you could call me a dualshock fanboy.
Ok some reviewers hammered home the comparisons to RE 4, and that's fair, apparently Capcom didn't want to stray from what worked for them and RE 4 was a runaway hit. I like that the game "feels" familiar but different at the same time. I played the demo a lot to get a handle on the controls, because we can all agree that they take a bit of adjustment from other 3rd person games. I know for the purity of the game Capcom decided to leave the run and gun aspect out of it, but I can't tell you how many times I wish I could pull a Gears of War tactic out of my a$$ during some of the more intense encounters, but after adjusting to the RE frame of mind I adapted quickly.
The story has enough cheese in it to keep me happy, I am perfectly happy with the story, my level of escapism with the game was just right, I don't need a life altering story to make me love a game.
I can't recommend this game enough, it is perfect for me in many ways. In my opinion it deserves my 5 Star rating.

add me for some co-op! I am trying to get more friends on PSN!

*EDIT*
I am adding that the inventory/cash system is ridiculous lol. You can literally farm levels for cash, ammo, weapons and treasures over and over and over...
I still love the game though, online co-op is amazing.
user comment Resident Evil 5 Not Horror, But AMAZING game

Alright, in order to best summarize this game, I should probably break it down to serve the game some justice...

Graphics: 10/10
Absolutely amazing, whether in broad daylight fighting the Executioner (a giant axe-weilding zombie),or in pitch darkness using a lantern to see the zombie hordes, the graphics are just beautiful, living up to both the PS3's and the Xbox 360's standards.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): 9/10
Let's kickoff with Sheva, your partner along the journey. She is definetly a god-send to RE5, but can have her problems.

Pros:
+ She is never far behind you
+ She gives you ammo that she doesn't need based off the weapons in your inventory
+ She heals you when the game senses you have low health (provided she has a herb, the main way of healing)
+ Has an "Attack" mode, where she runs recklessly around killing zombies.
Has a "Cover" mode, where you meet a more caution-oriented sheva, conserving valuable ammo.

Cons:
- Rarely aims for the head, and is quick to waste valuable ammo
- Is quick to use up herbs, even if your above 70% health
- Is slow to help you when grappled by a zombie, even if she's right there
- Dont assume she's got your back... chances are, she doesn't.
- Specific to the "Caves" level, she seems hesitant with the lantern

Next, is the zombies; boy do we wish Sheva had this kind of intelligence. Frankly, I would be searching hard for bad things to say about the enemy AI, other than they are slow to react when you are near, but sometimes this is actually PROGRAMMED!!! For example, the harder the difficulty, the less preparation time the zombie carrying a chainsaw above his head will take when near you before cutting you in half. The RE5 team programmed an IN-GAME difficulty switch, depending on how your doing with your enemies. For example, if your doing really well on Amateur (the easiest difficulty), but maybe a little less than average on Normal, you could actually end up with the same difficulty, thus always providing a challenge.

Gameplay: 9/10
The controls are similar to RE4, with a few minor improvements. At first they ae hard to grasp, and a new player to Resident Evil will struggle with the first couple levels. My only concern, in addition to the complexity of the controls, your character lacks the ability to walk and shoot. Although it adds to tention, it just feels cheap, and I feel ripped off as a gamer. As for enemy spawns, I have no complaints. Everything runs smoothly, zombies arent appearing out of thin air (although it'll feel like it) like we've seen in Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Lastly, lets talk about the zombies reation to bullets. Obviosly, they dont like to be shot at and wll respond in rage once they recover from the wound. Interestingly as well, they also have animations and actions depending on where you shoot them. Say i were to shoot a zombie in his weapon heand. He will drop the weapon and grip his hand in agony. Sometimes a shot to a body part will allow chris and sheva to use a context sensitive move, conserving ammo and dealing massive damage. The only reason I marked this off one is because of the controls.

Replay Value: 10/10
There are many great games with impressive single player and multi-player, but lack replay value. Fortunately, RE5 is not one of those games. With additional mission modes, costumes, Acheivements/Trophy's, unlockable weapons, and countless bonus features, this is a game worth owning. If I use too many more words, I'll kill the effect, so I'll just leave it at that!

Story: 8/10
This story starts off just like all other horror games... WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON!?!? I wont spoil it, but the story is best around the mid-game, when your still left guessing, but arent completely uninformed. Unfortunately, towards the end of the game, you've already guessed who's in the mysterious mask, who's the main problem, and how it's going to end. My other problem is the final boss. I must have killed him on 4 different occasions, and HE'S STILL COMING BACK!!! Overall, the story was intense, but predictable.

So Is It A Horror?
It seemed to me that CAPCOM's idea of horror is throwing together a whole bunch of blood, gore, and zombies. If your opinion of a survival horror matches this, then have a jolly old time changing underwear, but for me, with the exception of a couple select chapters, was unpreturbed. And in order to satiate my horror needs, bought Left 4 Dead. So is it scary? Thats for you to decide.

In conclusion, with grea graphics and gameplay, this game deserves to be honored with 5 stars, and re-defines action games (in a good way). But if your looking for a horror, and your not easily scared, game like Silent Hill, Left 4 Dead, and Dead Space might be the ones for you.

Best Regards!

***Feedbacks***
I had always had my Eye on Resident Evil 5 but then i started reading alot of negative feedback and hearing that it wasnt worth buying. So i waited until the price fell down, that way if i didnt like it, at least i'd only spend under 30 bucks on it instead of 50 or over. But i really enjoyed myself, the game is addicting and i can play it all day and all night. It just goes to show that you can't really rely on everyone else's feedback. We all have different tastes and experiences when it comes to games and not eveyone is going to like everything. So its best to give it a shot despite what people say about it.

***Gameplay***
I believe the controls are the same as with Leon, including the shooting and Knife method. During the cut-scenes you are required to push the correct buttons at the bottom to avoid death. Your partner is Sheva, she will be with you until the end at all times. Unlike Ashley, Sheva is very valuable, reliable and SMART! What i mean by smart is the fact that she'll knock over the ladder if enemies try to climb up, she'll even set it back up. if you give her the sniper rifle, she's better at perfect aim when it comes to distant enemies. She'll heal you, give you ammo if you have the gun that is consistant with it (she'll take it out of her inventory and put it in yours). The barrels and boxes are in this one too, the only difference is that everytime you find one, you are guaranteed to pick up something. I've found ALOT more items from these places then in RE4.

The graphics, the way they move and facial expressions are excellent! There are a handful or plenty of boss fights, tons of places to go and the gameplay is really long which i like alot! I think it's an extra chapter long then RE4. You will get to drive a speedboat to navigate through the villiages, you'll get to use machine guns/rocket while riding in the back of a truck to help kill off coming motorbike enemies etc. Bascially everything youre doing requires team work.

One of the greastest things i like about the game was finally getting your hands on Wesker and having a showdown with him. He's movements are awesome and i would say he's the second coolest Video game Villian next to Sephiroth (FF7). The bad thing i hate about it is that people say this is the end of Wesker. The guy is just too cool in my opinion, but i also read that we'll have to face one of his siblings in the next resident evil game if i read right.

You can choose which character you want to be but everything such as the item shop window and their health status will be on opposite sides from each other. For example if Chris uses his knife with the left hand, Sheva will use her right hand. so it takes alittle while to get use to.

The two-player option does come in handy ALOT. you can fight boss battles easier by confusing them because with Sheva as a computer, she'll just follow you and stand by your side. but when i was playing with my sister, we kept the boss between us. The chapter completes will be AlOT faster. with sheva on computer, she wont pick up everything available, such as gems and ammo etc. the only thing about playing with someone is that your screen will be split into two horizontally. it does take some time getting use to it but its pretty cool playing with someone.

***BAD THINGS***

1)Sheva does get in the way ALOT and she ends up wasting tons and tons of bullets becuase she gets behind Chris and shoots him in the back, even though she's aiming at an enemy in front them or Chris. Even when Chris is behind her, trying to aim at an enemy, she'll get in the way too. So its like either way, you just can't win! lol. I usually try to stand beside her. But if you accidentally shoot at each other, it doesnt count at all. Their life does not decrease, unless you use a rocket launcher really close. You will kill yourserlf and/or her.

2)One of the most annoying things about this game is the fact that it lured alot of idiots. What i mean by that is, they are trying to turn this game into a racist video game. As we all know RE5 is set in Africa and most of your enemies are black. Okay, I'm a black female, I get it that most people arent use to black people being IN video games and yes i control a white dude name Chris shooting a bunch of black dudes in the head, but does he really have a choice? especially when these black dudes arent in their right minds anymore! Plus he's got a black partner who's shooting her own people too. When you play some of the first few levels, i've noticed that there are light-skinned zombies too that are like arabian or indian or something, but not all of them were black. ALso as someone else brought up, Leon shot a bunch of spanish people in the heads too, but yet i havent heard of any stupid people crying "racist! racist!". In Racoon city, there were both black and white zombies along with a few women. These two games are VERY identical and i didnt find anything alarming about black zombies. In fact, i even forgot that they are were black becuase it is something i didnt concentrate on, i was too busy trying to beat the game. People are so freaken crazy!

3)There arent any typewriter saves in this game, which is a disappointment becuase its like they stopped the tradition of the save method. Also, once you enter a certain area, you will find that you can't go back. Lets say you forgot to explore an area or missed a box full of money, once you go through a door, elevator or whatever, to the next level, you can't go back.

4)Their inventory boxes are REALLY small, Chris and Sheva can only hold 9 items at time but you find LOADS of ammo and herbs around the place, and you can't help but grit your teeth when there is no space left. I have no idea what they were thinking by giving them such a SMALL inventory! However, what i learned to do about that, is when i come to a checkpoint or save point, i push the start button and pick "restart level". It will take me back to the main inventory/store screen and i can put all my items up on the storage box to create more room. then when i'm done, it will simply take me back to where i left off in the game. (as long as you're at a check point or save point, so you wont have to do everything all over again.)

5)The controls are REALLY awkward at first, it was very hard for me to get the hang of it becuase of how difficult the camera angles were, but as you play along, you will get use to it and forget all about it.

6)You don't find much money (coins) in this game, it is really scarce but the prices are sky high. BUT If you play on the HIGHEST difficult level, everything doubles and triples. if you normally find 3000 bucks in a box, you'll find 6000. zombies normally drop 100s and 200s. you'll pick up 400s and 800s instead.

7)You might have to turn some of the music down becuase sometimes its hard to understand what the characters are saying, especially when it comes to their accents. Plus the captions are too dain small, so its hard to even read that. Even when youre reading files, the words are hard to see, they could have at least shade the background for us to read better. Now i don't have an HD tv or modern tv, so that could be the problem. I still have the same tv that i bought all the way back in....maybe 2004.

8)Another thing about the inventory is the fact that you can't be drawn away from the action WHILE youre roaming through your inventory. You'll have to take cover or use the inventory quick before an enemy attacks you. there is no pausing screen for their inventory. BUT the directional buttons on your controller DOES correspond with the items inside your inventory. for example, if you press the left directional button, Chris will take out which ever item you have put in the left side of the inventory.

9)Sheva may be smart, but she's also annoying and a pest. when your health runs out, you fall into this misery stage where if you do not get help from your partner in the certain amount of time it shows you (a bar will gradully decrease) then the character dies. Lets say Sheva is really far away from you becuase she needs to help you activate a device or goes to retrieve an important item. She goes into that misery mode and begs for help, but you can't do anything for her beucase she's far away. so she just dies and the game is over.

************************************************************************SAVE MONEY*********************************************************************

I'm REALLY REALLY upset with the fact that they have launched a new RE 5 called the "Gold Edition" at the last minute when i JUST bought this one which is bascially the same game but comes with TONS AND TONS of extra stuff, such 4 MORE costumes for Chris & Sheva, plus other gameplays. So i would suggest that you do NOT buy the original release of RE5, instead buy RESIDENT EVIL 5: Gold EDition. You will get twice or more stuff with that copy then with this. (if i'm wrong about some things, please correct me)

***Goodies to Unlock & Main Menu***

There are tons of things you can buy or unlock. At the end of each chapter, you'll get a certain amount of points depending on how well you have done. (if you play on the highest difficult level, you earn a heck of more points, so it wont take you longer to unlock stuff) These points help unlock infinite ammo, character profiles and some other things. There are a few character outfits you can unlock, each have two of their own and you can pick which one you would like to be as a default. The Menu screen is awesome.

You can replay through any chapters you want, after you've completed them, of course. So this gives you a chance to kinda skip around or go back to retrieve any missing cheat items that you missed. Now i heard that the item shop is so easy to take advantage of. for example if i'm at the end of the game's last chapter, but go back to chapter one and play through it to get more items, it will keep those items in your inventory no matter where you are in the game. Even if you start another game and play through the whole thing a second time etc, everything will still be there.

At the Menu there is a Mercenaries game, you can either play with a partner (screens will split) or you can play alone. There are about 7 chapters to this one and bascially you just kill as many enemies as you can before time runs out. I havent fooled around with it much, timed events make me so nervous. :D

There is some sort of online gameplay, i'm not really sure becuase my ps3 isnt set up properly yet.

There are 4 difficulty levels you can play as, I think they are Amatuer,Normal,Vertern and....well that last one is REALLY REALLY tough becuase one hit can leave you crippled and the enemies are quicker, so be careful.

Overall, i had a blast with this game and i'm glad i gave it a shot, woo-hoo! This game is worth buying, especially if you are a long-time resident evil fan! :) Oh yea and Chris is gorgeous!
user comment Resident Evil 5 Perfect for two players at home

Review Date: December 16, 2009
Reviewer: A. Blankenship,
My husband and I love this game. It is great if you like to play the campaigns together. What I like is that you can start the game alone but if you have a friend that wants to join in you start at the same level, you do not have to reset the game! It is a must buy if you love to play with a friend at home. Right up there will Resistance (the first one). In addition, it is a fairly long game so you get your money's worth. The only thing is that this game is a little scary for the little ones so I would not recommend it for anyone under 13. Other than that enjoy!
user comment Resident Evil 5 GREAT GAME MADE ME BUY PS3

I thought this game was great. This game made me buy a PS3 after the PS3 price drop. I thought the graphics were great and so was the sound. The story line was pretty good and I wasn't expecting to see Jill in the game so that was nice also. I am new to PS3 so the controls took some time to get used to. I played all the other RE games for Gamecube so...it was a nice upgrade for me. RE5 is just slightly a notch below RE4 (which is the 2nd best game I have ever played right after Zelda:Ocarina Of Time). Three really minor things that bothered me about this game was the AI would waste ammo and in the final battle I had to use the hand knife to beat the game, it wasn't as scary/horror as the original RE but still fun and during loading between levels you couldn't read the history of RE because the loading was so fast. I am going to play it online next and see what that is like. I highly recommend this game to those who haven't played it.
