| Get your hands dirty in the early stages of the epic battle between UNSC and Covenant. Developed by Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars for Xbox 360 brings all the drama of a real-time strategy game to the popular Halo Universe. Set in the year 2531, before the initial Halo first-person shooter game, this game lets you control the human armies of UNSC in a whole new way.

Bring in air support to turn the tide of battle. View larger. | Experience the Epic Battle from a New Perspective Defense, offense, and the ability to hold down a command center in the face of hostile attacks: there's a lot to think about when laying out tactics for an all-out alien war. Featuring detailed environments and complicated new battle mechanisms, this game demands a different kind of perspective than the first-person shooters from the original Halo series. You'll need to uncover the hidden strengths and weaknesses of each unit and play them to your tactical advantage, and that's just the beginning. UNSC: Be Part of a Legendary Conflict The story opens with UNSC forces retaking the planet Harvest from the Covenant. At your disposal -- should you choose to take command of UNSC forces -- will be everything from a corps of highly-trained Marines to the Warthogs, Scorpions, and Hornets you'll need for air and land attacks. You'll take stock of the map and decide between holding your ground or advancing on enemy strongholds, all while trying to navigate the local terrain and outsmart Covenant forces. And when you need something extra to tip the tide in your favor, UNSC leaders can provide you with the ability to mobilize highly specialized units or call the Spirit of Fire vessel for support from above. Covenant: A Capable, Playable Enemy Faction That's right, Covenant is playable in this corner of the Halo universe. This alliance of alien species has manipulated advanced technology, firepower, and tactical prowess into a powerful force that is engaged in a Genocidal war against human race, having branded humans as heretics. With the ability to play as these tough, alien fighters, you'll have advanced shield technology, the modular Citadel at the heart of Covenant's colonizing power, and, of course, the iconic Scarab attack vehicle at your disposal, adding a whole new dimension to your strategic warfare. The Scarab is a terrifying military vehicle crafted from heavy mining equipment. And with a mining laser that delivers massive damage across battlefields large and small, turrets for taking on air attacks, and the ability to clamber over any terrain, what's not to love about commanding Scarabs instead of fighting against them? Developed Exclusively for Xbox 360 Most console RTS games are adapted from existing PC games, which can make their controls bulky or awkward, but Halo Wars has been developed for Xbox 360 from the ground up. This means the controls are sensitive, intuitive, and easy-to-operate in the midst of battle. And the UI is just as intuitive, so whether you're managing a unit of marines or a deadly machine, you can focus on creating a battle strategy instead of worrying about how to overcome a clumsy controller. No matter which faction you choose to play as, you can test your skills against those of other players in online skirmishes that allow up to six players with the New Xbox Experience through Xbox LIVE.

At my age (32) there is a certain level of difficulty I want to experience; and it's pretty darn low. Let the young struggle in glorious battle. No thanks. I want moderate challenge with a pretty high guarantee of victory. ...and thanks to the savvy makers of Halo Wars, that's exactly what I have! Whoo hoo.
Without reading a thing about it ('also lazy apparently) I popp'd the game in and started a skirmish on "Normal."... With some limited experience in RTS games (Age of Empires, Starcraft, etc.) I had the general principles down before I played. And by god, the controls are so intuitive that I didn't need to read a thing! Well, for basic gameplay mastery anyway. In minutes I was gathering supplies, building up the base, creating troops, etc. All with this fantastic design style that flows perfectly with the Halo universe I know and love.
To date I've played maybe 30 skirmishes, and run the entire campaign on Normal. Yes I'm the only person on Earth who is not online with his Xbox. All in all, even with having to read up on a few details and nuance questions, the game is fantastic. Smooth gameplay, awesome graphics, terrific sound (ok the music is the only downside, it's more moody / somber than it should be) and simple controls. For a gamer like me? it's very near ideal. bring on Halo Wars 2! |
Halo Wars Limited Edition = Win

I first tried the demo on Xbox Live Marketplace and was instantly hooked, and shortly thereafter found out the limited edition is the same price on Amazon as the regular edition is in stores. So if you liked the demo, and like to save a little money, pick this up.
The game works very very well for being an RTS on a console, at times the game can be choppy but really only if you have a bunch of squads on the screen at any given time. The music is great, very Halo-like.
At first I was expecting to play both the Human and Covenant campaigns but I eventually found out, its the Human missions and thats it, 15 in total. But the game also includes a nice Skirmish mode and Online Multiplayer. I myself have yet to explore the multiplayer but the skirmish gives you a good idea of what it might be like.
If you've played the demo and liked it, and if you have Halo 3 but haven't bought the Mythic Map Pack I strongly recommend buying this. |
My opinion of a great game!!!

I am a huge strategy gamer and I have played almost every one of them on XBOX 360. Civilization Revolution, all three Command and Conquers, and yes even Warhammer Battle March. This game is near if not at the top of my list.
-Campaign is short but achievements, unlockables, co-op, and the different difficulties make for multiple play-throughs.
-Multiplayer is deep with 2 main factions and each one has three sub-factions. There is a great variety with play style for each faction. Being able to create a skirmish game around how you want to play is fun as hell.
-Graphics are beautiful and full of colors from the Halo universe.
-Gameplay has a bit of a learning curve (20-30 min.) and then is really easy.
-There are cons but the pros outweigh them 10 fold. If you like RTS you will LOVE Halo Wars.
Don't focus on what the developers didn't put in. Have fun with what you have. You don't see me pissed because they don't allow 2 attachments in Call of Duty 4, but its still a great game. |

| Very good strategy game, requires a lot of thinking. Some missions are harder than others. The story was very good and the flood are disgusting. My favorite part is skirmish mode because you can build your own bases and upgrade your soldiers any way you want. I like the special units, like the ODST and kamakaze grunts. When I play as Captain Cutter I like using ODST and the MAC rounds. When playing as Truth I like the cleansing laser. I would highly recommend this game to all Halo fans and fans of roll playing games. |
Halo Wars: Limited Edition = Best RTS to date!

I pre-ordered this from my local video game store back in March 3rd, and now I decided to give it a review after several months of enjoying it.
Campaign [9.5/10]
The Plot takes place 20 years before Halo: Combat Evolved. The game starts with Alpha Base under attack by Covenant Forces, and from there, the story just keeps getting better. The Campaign is challenging, but it's worth it. Even if this Halo game's not by the epic Bungie Studios, it's still epic overall. Campaign has some units not im multiplayer, like the Rhino, and on tougher difficulties, enemies are usually stronger, along with the addition of more enemy units.
Skirmish/Multiplayer [10/10]
Skirmish is where you play on multiplayer maps against AI enemys.
Multiplayer is where you play against other people via System Link or Xbox LIVE on multiplayer maps.
Both of them are awesome.
In multiplayer/Skirmish, you build an army to destroy other armies, AI or other people. It's excellent because of the unique abilities and some AI in there hidden.
Now for the Limited Edition stuff:
Flaming Warthog & Unique Honor Guard Wraith [8/10]
These unique skins make the warthog and wraith look cooler, but they dont do anything besides give the warthogs a cool skin.
Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack [10/10]
I got Halo 3 Legendary Edition last christmas, and the Mythic Map pack adds more awesome sauce to Halo 3.
Sandbox is a super customizable map that is recommended for any game type.
Assembly is a covenant like map that is recommended for team slayer and king of the hill.
Orbital is a space station map that is recommended for infection and team slayer.
Other Limited Edition stuff [9/10]
There are other limited edition stuff, like a book, collectors leader cards, and a cool patch. These are all collectible and really cool to collect and have. The book shows how the crew of Spirit of Fire crew got together. The leader cards tell you all the multiplayer leaders bio's, info, and special stuff. The patch is not a magnet, and is really cool for halo fans.
Overall score: [9.6/10]
